Obituary of June M. O'Brien

June M. O'Brien, 91, of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 2016 at Wingate at Beacon, where she resided the last two weeks of her life. She was born on June 12, 1925 in New York City, the daughter of the late Frank and Blanche Boyle Hughes. June grew up in New York City and attended elementary and secondary schools there. She married the love of her life, Harold J. O'Brien on August 12, 1943 at the Church of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs in New York City. Harold passed unto eternal rest on July 7, 1987. She lovingly raised four children and devoted her life to providing a nurturing home for her husband and children. June was a wonderful cook and talented homemaker who ensured the home she created provided a nurturing environment of warmth and security for her family. She especially enjoyed interior design, reading and was extremely fond of her many dogs who gave her great comfort after she was widowed. She loved the ocean and spent many vacations at the beach with her family. Survivors include her daughter, Joanne Hempe and husband, Steve of Bluffton, SC; her son, David O'Brien and wife, Karen of Matthews, NC; her brothers, William Hughes and wife, Judy of Pleasant Valley and Francis Hughes of Hillsdale, NJ; her grandsons, Brian Hempe of Smyrna, GA, Jesse and Davis O'Brien of Matthews, NC, Ned Donohue and wife, Tracie of Hopewell Junction, Zachary Ross of Wappingers Falls; her granddaughters, Hope Pinto and husband, Peter of Poughkeepsie and Kristen Rodriguez of Beacon. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Edward Donohue, three great grandchildren and a niece and several nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, June was predeceased by her two daughters, Nancy R. Donohue, who lovingly oversaw her Mother's care during her Mother's last years, and Denise G. Ross. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
