Obituary of Sandra N. Ettinger
Sandra N. Ettinger, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Monday, October 21, 2024 at Hudson Valley Rehab and Extended Care Facility in Highland. She was 85.
Daughter of the late Frank and Stella Fitzgerald Nevins, she was born January 10, 1939 in Poughkeepsie. On June 29, 1958, she married Ronald D. Ettinger at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Ettinger preceded her in death on March 9, 2014.
After her children grew up, Sandy worked in retail at Walden Books and Macy’s in Poughkeepsie; retiring when she was 80. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. She volunteered with the Town of Poughkeepsie Little League for many years. Sandy was active in the New Hamburg Fire Company and in the early days answered the fire calls from home running to the fire house to raise the alarm and write down the address. She was very proud to have marched in the Macy’s Day Parade. Sandy was a devoted grandmother and attended numerous events for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Dawn Ettinger Wojciekofsky of Wappingers Falls and Ronald Ettinger, Jr. and his wife, Dawn M. Bey of Tillson; her grandchildren, Cody William Ettinger, Tyler Francis Ettinger and Jordan Skye Wojciekofsky; her step-grandchildren, Matthew Bey and William Bey; as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her biggest protector, big “Ted”.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Ronnie and Francis Nevins.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue in Poughkeepsie following.
