Obituary of Deborah T. Shaffer

Deborah T. "Debbie" Shaffer, a resident of Staatsburg, entered into rest Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 47. Daughter of Margaret Waldron Clifford of Poughkeepsie and the late Peter Clifford, she was born September 26, 1968 in Manhattan. Debbie married the love of her life, Alfred F. Shaffer, Jr. on April 18, 1987. Mr. Shaffer survives at home in Staatsburg. Debbie worked as a Central Service Technician at Kingston Hospital. She loved shopping, especially on Black Friday. In turn, Christmas was her favorite holiday. Debbie will be remembered as a caring person; often times taking in friends, family and anyone or anything that needed help. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her son, Michael Shaffer and his partner, Mike Green of Red Hook; her daughters, Stephanie Savva and her husband, Harry of Kingston and Samantha Britton and her husband, Chris of Staatsburg; her sisters, Peggy Tavarez, Florence Duncan, Patricia Clifford, and Catherine Meisner; her brother, Michael Clifford; her two grandchildren, Louis and Lydia Savva; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her dog and faithful companion, Oscar. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Violet Avenue in Hyde Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Debbie's name may be made to the Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center for the Dyson Cancer Center, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
