Obituary of Rafael Martinez

Rafael Martinez, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill. He was 83. Son of the late Rafael Martinez and Emilia Vazquez Martinez, he was born March 23, 1931 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He married the former Ida Candida Ramos on April 26, 1951 in New York City. Mrs. Martinez preceded him in death on April 15, 2004. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Prior to his retirement, Rafael worked for IBM as a facilities manager for thirty years. He had attended the First Presbyterian Church in Wappingers Falls and was a friend of Bill W. Rafael enjoyed the outdoors, working on his home as well as fixing things and building different projects. He was known for his singing; often using song to convey his feelings. He was known to have a song for every occasion. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a loving husband and father and a devoted grandfather. He is survived by his son, Glenn R. Martinez of Wappingers Falls and his four grandchildren, Glenn Rafael Martinez, Matthew John Martinez, Ryan Thomas Martinez and Marissa Alida Martinez. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. during the visitation at the funeral home.
