Obituary of George R. Battaglia
George Richard Battaglia passed away on October 4 surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He was 94.
Born August 31, 1930 to Samuel and Dorothy (Linke) Battaglia in Yonkers, NY; he was predeceased by his parents, a brother John and two sisters, Dorothy and Margaret.
George is survived by his wife of 71 years, Kathryn (Kay) Parent, his children Susan Tocco (Paul), Thomas (Linda), Gary (Phally), Terese Malcolm (Stewart), Ann Long (Brian), Christine O'Leary (Patrick), his six grandchildren Michael Battaglia, Sarah Navins (Daniel), Nicole Malcolm (Shane Petrollese), Patrick O'Leary, Thomas O'Leary, Carlin O'Leary (Brandon Mascaro) and five great grandchildren Mason, Graeme, Emma, Clare and Leo, as well as his brother, Joseph and sister, Patricia Jean.
George and Kay moved to Wappingers Falls in 1974. After retiring from Devonshire Tire Center in Yonkers in 1995, he took a job with the town of Wappingers working at the recycling center for 20+ years.
He was a proud Marine who served in the Korean War, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Division.
The family will receive visitors at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls on Thursday, October 10 from 2pm-5pm with a Marine Honor Ceremony following.
