Obituary of Arthur R. Reilly
It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Reilly announce his passing on October 2, 2024. Arthur, “Artie”, “Art” died peacefully in his home at age 94.
Artie was born on December 1, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Mildred Reilly.
Artie served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952. He was employed by the New York City Police Department from 1953 to 1983, retiring with the rank of Captain. On February 6, 1951, he married the love of his life Ivy Marriott, who predeceased him on June 9, 2001. They were married for 50 years.
Artie is also predeceased by several siblings. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Artie resided in Clearwater, FL for 27 years before relocating back to NY to be closer to his family. He loved the beach, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, taking long drives, attending Broadway shows, watching sports and recounting the stories of his life to anyone who would listen.
Artie leaves behind a daughter, Susan Perkins residing in Poughkeepsie, NY and two grandchildren, Brynn McCaffrey of Poughkeepsie, NY and Colin Perkins, residing in Kansas City, Missouri.
The family would like to acknowledge and extend their gratitude to Hudson Valley Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion during Artie’s illness. Additionally, they would like to thank Artie’s caregivers Marsha, Carlene, Grace, Gloria and Jeanette who filled the last years of his life with love and empathy no matter what the obstacles. Special thanks also go out to Maria, his housekeeper. He so looked forward to her arrival with fresh donuts. Artie may be gone but those who cared for him will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 27 at Shadows on the Hudson, 176 Rinaldi Blvd. in Poughkeepsie.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be given to Hudson Valley Hospice.
