Obituary of Lumdas Saraf
Lumdas Hiraman Saraf, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and friend, passed away on May 20, 2024, in Fishkill, New York, passing quietly with his wife Meena Saraf by his side.
Lumdas was born in Faizpur, India and received his Bachelors Degree in Physics from Wadia College and Masters Degree in Material Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. Lumdas spent over 32 years as a dedicated engineer at IBM, specializing in semiconductor technology with 2 patents in the field.
A man of commitment to his community, Lumdas immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s and was one of the earliest Indian settlers in the East Fishkill/Poughkeepsie region in 1967. He helped pave the way for many with a strong commitment and support for the early Indian community. He was passionate about environmentalism and volunteered regularly at the local recycling center.
Lumdas was deeply involved in the Indian Association in New York City in the 1960s, serving as the president, a mentor for new immigrants from India, and volunteering his services for the advancement of the sciences. Lumdas was strongly committed to preserving his culture and way of life.
Lumdas is survived by his wife of 54 years, Meena Saraf; his children, Manisha Saraf Morris, Santosh Saraf and Sushma Saraf; son-in-law, Gavin Morris; daughter-in-law, Sonali Saraf; his grandchildren, Sapna, Nikhil and Reyna Saraf; his sister, Manda Patil; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Hiraman and Laxmi Saraf and his siblings Prahlad Saraf, Vasu Saraf, Bhagavat Saraf, Indu Bhole, and Pushpa Patil.
A funeral service will be held on May 24, 2024, at 8:30 AM at Straub Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
Lumdas’ legacy of kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
