Obituary of Dorothy M. Pyle
Dorothy Pyle, age 89 of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away on May 12, 2024, leaving a void her family and friends cannot fill.
Dorothy was born in Philadelphia in 1934 to John and Margaret Bounds and grew up with her sisters Joan, Margaret, and Lois, as well as her brothers John and Paul (all predeceased). Dorothy attended the School of Nursing of the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with her RN. She continued her profession at University of Pennsylvania Medical School before moving to New York State. She worked in private practice and the Castle Point VA Medical Center as an ICU nurse. Finally she finished her career in Medical Quality Control for the Veterans Administration.
As part of a large family during WW2 and the Depression, Dorothy developed a deep love of reading. Frequently, if you were to look for her, she could be found beneath a blooming wisteria with her books, enjoying rare quiet time.
While attending Darby High School, Dorothy excelled in most academics and joined several clubs such as Theater and Field Hockey.
In 1955, Dorothy embarked on a lifelong journey with her husband, Richard Pyle. Together, they raised three children, Susan, Richard, and Jeffery. Dorothy's love and guidance shaped her children's lives, providing them with a strong foundation of warmth, compassion, and occasional motherly discipline.
Dorothy had a special gift of being able to engage anyone in a dialog that would soothe the turmoil of one's life. She dispensed wisdom and perspective that her years and experiences taught, and you left the conversation feeling like you had a warm cup of tea on a cold afternoon.
Dorothy took joy in all things Irish, given her family heritage of hailing from Malin Head, County
Donegal, Ireland. She had fond memories of her family traditions and carried them through her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Richard. She is survived by her children Susan and
Victor Triolo, Richard (Monica) Pyle and Jeffrey (partner, Lori Jiavi), grandchildren Ryan and
Lauren Pyle, Elijah and Cooper Pyle, all of whom will never forget the love she brought to their lives. Dorothy also leaves behind more family that includes her sister-in-law Avenelle Pyle, many nieces, nephews and their children, scores of lifelong friends, and multitude of coworkers that have become a family of the heart.
A Memorial Celebration will be held at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Monday, June 10, 10:30 am.
