Obituary of Margaret F. Nelson

Margaret F. Nelson, a resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 88.

Daughter of the late Gustave and Mary Baisely Mitchell, she was born April 18, 1936 in New York City. She married James Nelson on May 10, 1958 in New York City. He preceded her in death on August 7, 1982.

Prior to her retirement, Margaret worked in produce at Stop and Shop in Wappingers Falls. She attended St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. She enjoyed her time at the Poughkeepsie Senior Center and was known to craft.

Survivors include her children, James Nelson of Poughkeepsie, Carol Ann DeVito and her husband, David of Hopewell Junction and Margaret Thompson of Poughkeepsie; her sister, Veronica Young of Queens; her grandchildren, Jacqueline, James, Italya and Giavanna.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jennifer and her brother, Edward Mitchell.

Family and friends will gather from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
