Obituary of John M. Ashback
John (Johnny Boy) M. Ashback, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and great uncle, passed away suddenly at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on April 18th, 2024 at the age of 65.
John was born on March 1, 1959 to John G. and Barbara L. (nee LaVaghetta) Ashback in the Bronx, NY. At the age of 12, John’s family moved from the Bronx, NY to reside in Wappingers Falls, NY. John graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School and remained in Dutchess County. As the oldest of four children, John enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and numerous pets.
On August 22, 1992 John married his loving wife Robin (nee Barboza) in a Catholic mass celebrated by many friends and family. On February 3, 1996 they welcomed their son Wesley.
John enjoyed his many jobs throughout his life and was most recently a school bus driver with Beacon City School District. On the weekends, if he was not working school trips or sporting events, you could find John spending time with his family including his grandchildren and his great niece and nephew. John enjoyed taking care of his fish tanks and has a beautiful collection of various fish.
In addition to his devoted and loving wife, Robin, John is survived by his sons, Wesley Ashback of Fishkill, NY, Anthony Ashback, and his wife, Jessica of Spackenkill, NY; his grandsons, Jace and Dean Ashback; mother, Barbara Ashback of Wappingers Falls, NY; mother and father in-law, Robert M. and Maria E. Barboza of Poughkeepsie, NY; brothers, Phillip Ashback and his, wife Terry of East Greenbush, NY and Michael Ashback of Wappingers Falls, NY; sister, Lisa Wilson and her husband, Allan of Beacon, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews, Nicholas (Alexandra) of Lynbrook, NY, Samantha (Jeremiah) of Wappingers Falls, NY, Sarah of East Greenbush, NY, and Carter (Brooke) of Beacon, NY. John adored his great nieces and nephews, Charlotte, Lucas, Bennett and Sophia.
John was predeceased by his father, John G Ashback.
To know Johnny boy was to love him as he always radiated kindness and love while being unafraid of telling you the truth. In true Johnny Boy fashion, he was larger than life and will be missed tremendously.
Family will receive friends at Straub, Catalano, & Halvey Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls on Thursday April 25th from 4-7pm. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
