Obituary of Maria I. Penik
Maria I. Penik entered into rest Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 76.
Daughter of the late Anatol and Olga (Badarak) Soltysiak, she was born on April 13, 1947 in Deggendorf, Germany. She married William P. Penik on October 29, 1966 at St. Michael’s Church in Yonkers; Mr. Penik predeceased her on February 6, 2007.
Maria formerly worked as a manager for Lechmere in Poughkeepsie and later as a clerk for the Town of Wappinger. She spent her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and three children. Maria had a love of animals and enjoyed crafting and decorating in her spare time. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Maria was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls.
Survivors include her children, William P. Penik, II and his wife, Michelle of Millbrook, Tracy Bronzo and her husband, Frank of Hopewell Junction, and Sharon Penik of Wappingers Falls; brothers, John Soltysiak and his wife, Walky of Wappingers Falls and Eugene Soltysiak and his wife, Joanie of Oxford, CT; grandchildren, William, III, Hayley and Ava; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Soltysiak.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
