Obituary of John A. Mangeri

John Anthony Mangeri passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024.

Beloved husband of predeceased Anne (Dowling) Mangeri for 55 years, devoted father to David and John, father-in-law to Kerry and Mia, and adoring grandfather to Stephen, John, Bella, and David.

John was born in the Bronx (NYC) on January 25,1949 and moved to Mount Vernon, NY in his childhood, until moving to Wappingers Falls with his wife in 2016. John was an incredibly earnest and industrious man who managed to wear many hats during his blue-collar working life. He will be most remembered for his time with the Archdiocese as a custodian at St. Peter and Paul Church in Mount Vernon, where the children would lovingly call him Father John.

John loved music and movies. He was a life-long learner, and always enjoyed healthy debate and discussion.  His favorite pastime was to spend quality time with his close-knit family and friends which we will forever be grateful for, as he knew how much he was loved and adored. Most notably, the Rizzos (which include Rose, Charles, Charles Jr., and Barbara) served as his second family and dearly devoted friends. John lived simply, gave generously, and will always be remembered in this way.

Family will receive their friends on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Community Mausoleum, Route 9 in Fishkill.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org, or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org.
