Obituary of Nancy R. Donohue

Nancy R. Donohue, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home. She was 69. Daughter of June Hughes O'Brien and the late Harold J. O'Brien, she was born October 11, 1946 in New York City. She married the love of her life, Edward P. Donohue on December 28, 1973 at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Donohue survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Nancy fulfilled many roles in her life. She worked as an assistant registrar at Marist College and later with Dutchess County Department of Family Services. She was also the Director of Tutor Time Childcare in Wappingers Falls. Nancy was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. She loved to travel, especially taking cruises. She was known for her sophisticated fashion sense and had a passion for shopping and decorating. Anyone who came in contact with Nancy fell in love with her. Her huge caring heart and unrelenting generosity is something that embodied her whole being. She could instantly brighten a room or improve someone's day through her smile, her laugh and her mere presence. Her bold, fun-loving personality touched so many lives. Nancy was a kid at heart and loved being a grandmother these past few years. She lived her life in gratitude and always maintained a positive outlook, never wanting to burden anyone. Above anything in her life, her family was her greatest love and greatest accomplishment. In addition to her mother, June O'Brien of Poughkeepsie and her husband, Edward P. Donohue at home in Wappingers Falls, she is survived by her children, Ned Donohue and his wife, Tracie of Hopewell Junction and Hope Pinto and her husband, Peter of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Luke and Eve Pinto and Jack Donohue; her brother, David O'Brien and his wife, Karen of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister, Joanne Hempe and her husband, Steve of Bluffton, South Carolina; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Denise Ross. Family will receive their friends on Monday, March 14, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15 at the Church of St. Columba, 835 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie.
