Obituary of Charles W. Hess

Charles W. Hess, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Brooklyn, entered into rest Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his home. He was 75. Son of the late William A. and Jean Makowski Hess, he was born July 7, 1940 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1964. Charles went on to work for Con Edison, retiring as a Supervisor on September 9, 1999. He married the love of his life, the former Elizabeth A. Cullom on October 16, 1965. Mrs. Hess survives at home in Wappingers Falls. He was a member of the Oddfellows in Wappingers Falls. Charles enjoyed Polish music and was involved with Matusz Dance Group. He was the winner of the Harvest Moon Ball in 1964. He loved watching sports and recently enjoyed attending Marist football games. In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his children, Deborah Zabroni and her husband, Peter of Wappingers Falls and Kevin Hess and his wife, Renee of Yorktown; his brother, Lawrence Hess; his sisters, Leona Przymylski, Lorraine Wergen, Charlotte Konnick and Joyce Costa; his beloved grandchildren, Leanna Marie, Julia Lynn, Ryan Charles and Rachel Krystyna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard and sisters, Janie Engfer and Alvina Podgurski. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, in Wappingers Falls.
