Edith Warg, 70, a lifelong resident of Wappingers Falls, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023, surrounded by her devoted family.
Born in Poughkeepsie on April 9, 1953, as the first daughter to Jordan Myron Fendell and Mildred Postoff Fendell.
Edith graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School. From there, she pursued her lifelong ambition to become a teacher graduating cum laude from SUNY New Paltz and Mount Saint Mary College. Her teaching profession began at Wasaic Developmental Center. She spent most of her career in the Beacon City School District teaching special education for 33 1/2 years.
No one stayed a stranger for long when meeting Edith. She loved going on adventures around the world. Edith was an avid traveler, visiting 6 of the 7 continents. She was a teacher to all and a student of life, always learning and curious. She enjoyed playing games such as Scrabble and mahjong. Her other passion was sewing, and she often quilted blankets for her family and friends.
Edith will be remembered for her teaching, laughter, creativity, seeking new adventures, and her love of family and friends. When you think of Edith, celebrate the good times and be comforted by the memories.
She is survived by two loving daughters, Elizabeth Allen and Rebekah Near. In addition, she is also survived by two adoring grandchildren, Zealynn and Emerson Near, and one sister, Elana Roberts.
The family will sit Shiva from Wednesday, December 20, 2023 until Tuesday, December 26, 2023 and not on Saturday, the Sabbath. They will welcome visitors between 2-7 pm.
