Obituary of Janet R. Goeller

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet R. Goeller, 87, on November 15, 2023 in Poughkeepsie.

Janet was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January 5, 1936 and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late John and Rose Furch English. She married John Edward Goeller, Jr. on May 18, 1957 at St. John the Apostle Church in Clark, New Jersey.  They moved to Poughkeepsie in 1959 where they raised their six children. 

She spent her time taking care of the home and the children.  Janet was a caring, loving, and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She enjoyed leisure activities and was in a bowling league for many years. 

After the death of her husband of forty-four years in 2001, she loved to go on trips; including Cape May, Aruba and cruise ships with her sister, Carol and other family members.  Janet cherished spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, and card games.  Janet was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls.

Survivors include her six children, Stephen Goeller of Poughkeepsie, NY, Kenneth Goeller of Elizabeth City, NC, Gregory Goeller of Mesa, AZ, Susan Segal of Staatsburg, NY, Michelle Pape of Staatsburg, NY, and Donald Goeller of Poughkeepsie, NY; her brother, John (Jack) English and sister-in-law Shirley; her six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three nieces and nephew, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Carol Gary in 2021.

Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Janet on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 20 at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.

In lieu of flowers, we would like to honor Janet’s love and care by donating to a local charity, Sparrow’s Nest (sparrowsnestcharity).
