Obituary of Joseph H. Datres, Jr.
Joseph “Joe” Datres, Jr., a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1964, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the age of 89. Joe was born November 26, 1933 in Altoona, PA, the only child of the late Joseph and Thelma (Drexler) Datres.
In 1956, Joe married Mary Ann Stockbridge of Clinton, NY; Mrs. Datres survives at home. He is also survived by their four children: Wayne (Susan) of Burnsville, MN, Glen (Theresa) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Karen (Paul) of Greenfield, MA, and Julie of Enfield, CT; and 6 grandchildren, Taylor (Elwood), Stefan (Caity), Benjamin (Alyssa), Nathan, Liam, and Melissa.
Joe graduated from Ithaca High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He graduated from Union College in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and completed a master’s degree, also in electrical engineering, from New York University in 1964.
Joe worked for Westinghouse, Bell Labs, and IBM, retiring as a senior engineer from IBM in 1992. In his retirement, he was an active volunteer with AARP, Senior Net, and Angel Flight.
Following Joe’s wishes, the family will gather for a private service.
