Obituary of Marilyn J. Imm

Marilyn Jean (Connolly) Imm, formerly of Wappingers Falls New York, passed away peacefully at Joe Raso Hospice in New City, New York on February 12, 2023. Marilyn was born to John Connolly and Rosella (Smalley) Connolly on March 20, 1940 in Ossining, New York. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, her parents and two older brothers; Richard and Robert. Family was very important to Marilyn and she grew up surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her favorite memory was being on the Hudson River with her dad on his boat. Sadly, in 1956 her father died. However, this was the same year she met the love of her life, Ellsworth Imm, who was from Croton, New York. They married on April 26, 1958 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Scarborough, New York. She and her husband welcomed their only child, Jennifer Ann, into this world on February 15, 1969. “Mar” and “Ellie” made their home in Wappingers Falls, New York. She cared for her mother Rosella, who also made her home with them.

Marilyn enjoyed being a mother, wife and homemaker. She was so proud of her home in Royal Ridge and lived there for almost 50 years. Her doors were open to friends and family where the coffee pot was always on and there was always a hot meal to serve or freshly baked goodies to share. She was especially famous for her Christmas cookies. Marilyn and her family enjoyed annual summer vacations in Cape Cod and sitting on the back deck of their home with friends. She was an avid reader and never lost a game of scrabble.

After 40 years of marriage, Marilyn lost her husband in 1998 to pancreatic cancer. Once widowed, Marilyn discovered a love for travel and took many cruises, visiting several countries in her lifetime. She also made annual trips to visit family in Florida and California.

Marilyn’s greatest joy by far was becoming a grandmother to Zachary Cox and Kaitlin Cox. Once she became a grandmother, she was lovingly referred to as “Ama” by everyone. Ama never missed a concert, awards ceremony, tennis match or theater performance. Ama was involved daily in the lives of her daughter and grandchildren. She also made time to go to a movie or out to lunch with her friends. Marilyn loved dogs and had many in her lifetime. She leaves behind her dog Bella who is being lovingly cared for by her devoted niece, Elizabeth Connolly.

Marilyn only worked for a short time as she spent her life caring for others. She extended this caring nature to include volunteer work for the Mental Health Association and the Office for the Aging. She was a devoted volunteer for Friends of Seniors until 2018.
