Obituary of Stephen H. Burt
Stephen H. Burt, a resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Friday, November 11, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 78.
Son of the late Winston and Helen Miller Burt, he was born December 15, 1943 in Albany. Stephen proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He went on to work for the State of New York, Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie. He was very committed to his job and retired after thirty years.
He will be remembered as a devoted brother, uncle and great-uncle. You could count on him being present to support and celebrate all of life’s accomplishments, join in at a meal or hop on the dance floor. Stephen was generous with his family, both with his time and financially. He loved to pass along his love of history to the younger generation. He enjoyed maintaining family traditions, especially reading ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. Stephen was an avid family genealogist. He was a very curious person and was interested in and knowledgeable in many areas. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling. He loved to attend the Olympics and delighted his nieces and nephews with pins from the games. He enjoyed investing and relished in the process of where to make his investment. Stephen also loved nature and found joy in the simple pleasures of watching the deer and birds from his sun room.
Survivors include his siblings, Charlene Stevens and her husband, Dave, Kenneth Burt and his wife, Ronnie, Craig Peters, David Burt and Pat Kohler, Kerry Peters, Janet Fennell and her husband, Bill and Jeffrey “Jesse” Burt; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Winston Burt and sisters-in-law, Ellen, Kathy, and JoAnn.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
