Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you, peepeye. For some reason, it took a long time to like… REALLY really realize you’re gone. Physically at least. I was thinking of writing down stories of funny times we had together for Alexis - you would tell those stories, so it’s my job now. Morris the cat, Garfield, Josner… it’s so weird because I typed “sayig” at work and remembered our inside joke with “sayig”. Saw your grave today - ugh, the world was better when you were in the consciousness with us, but life has to go on. Miss you, girlie.

Ok the amount of things that I’ve wanted to screenshot and send you - the drama and theatrics we knew were extra/out of control and continue the theatrics hahaha from high school to now. I heard “falls apart” by Sugar Ray and wanted to send it to you and go JOEYYYYY. FUSSSSSSSSSSS. And then I let out a huge sigh… there are many good days, Kate. Oddly, your passing gave me a gift that I didn’t expect - a gift of being able to self-reflect, to truly take moments in and live life to enjoyment in the moment. But make no mistake, not a day passes by that the pallor of that cloud of your loss isn’t felt. I just cried with Danielle Cothren about you Friday. The reminder that you’re never coming back… it will forever suck. But you are, undoubtedly, forever and ever, missed, peepeye. Miss you more than you’ll ever know.

Hey Dumper! (Ok that’s how we always used to message hi to each other for the last 20 years lol… Katie knew). I am really sad today…. Lately. You weren’t supposed to be gone before 40. We were supposed to keep going as we had…. Sweet 16… 21 (the idiotic hotel party at the Best Western on 9)…30… it’s been unfair every day but like you’re not here. You’re not here and you’re supposed to be and I’m supposed to messaging you every hour with a countdown of how many hours until you officially become an old fart. And I’m just devastated. There’s no one like you, Kate, and I didn’t know that I had to do all this without you… I miss you.Please give me a sign it’s okay. I know it will be but you always put me at ease and vice versa.
Also, I’m sorry that I didn’t take you to Chik-fil-A when you came down that time. And I forgot they were closed Sundays. And we said you’d go next time you were down and then you got sick… I’m sorry. I love ya, soul sister.

It is with great sadness that I write this tribute rather than to welcome you back to work. I had so much hope in your fight to recover and you did fight a good fight but God had other plans for you. Sleep well my dear friend. You were such a sweet person, a wonderful mother to Alexis, a good wife and daughter.

To Al, Kris, Lorraine and the many friends and relatives of Katherine Gariolo, or as I knew her Katie. There are no words to express the sorrow I feel at this great loss for your family. I was just beginning to get to know Katie thru her Mom and Dad. I met you all thru my relationship with one of Al's long time friends, Bob. We shared many good Saturday nights having dinner with Al and Lori and a few times with Katie. Katie was a wonderful person and so was Lori. They will be forever missed by all. You know, someone once told me that good children are made by good parents and I think that rings true here. Loosing your Mother was hard enough for both of us but now loosing you makes life impossible. I only hope that Mom needed you not to suffer any longer and asked God that you could be with her. That thought allows me to accept my loss! All the time that I spent with you for the last 10 months was so precious. Alexis is the link to you now for me. Your sisters, Lori and Kris, did so so much to help you, that I can't thank them enough. Bless them! Some how I have to go on without the both of you, of course asking "Why"! Any day that I spent with you I couldn't wait to go on the 9 o'clock Zoom and see you and your sisters together. I've been so lucky to have 3 of the best, loving daughters! A Man couldn't ask for more in life!

Kate, my peepeye, I will probably be posting on here for many days, weeks, months, and years to come. You seem so, so close. I can hear your voice, see your face, laugh at your laugh… for years, your heart, your dedication, your devotion wasn’t just a staple of my life. It WAS my life… your existence and being was and always will be distinctly tied to mine. We defined what best friendship should be… there is no one, in fiction or reality, that comes close. The amount of memories that we have together in our lives - so many countless memories, from hanging out at the beanie baby store in the mall in the late 90s to playing 9 ball at Juliet’s and ALWAYS hitting the 4 ball on the floor to blasting cartoon theme songs at red lights for horrified onlookers lol to working at Hallmark together (CHARCENE or Skylar - I’ll make you laugh in Heaven!!!) to friends coming and going to having kids (and our kids being buddies) and Happy Meal dates to countless hours sending each other a mix of “LMFAOOOOOO” messages and heartfelt venting without skipping a beat.
When you came to visit me in Long Island last year, do you remember when that huge shooting star ripped across the sky in the middle of us yapping and stopped us in our tracks? At the time, we said it was my mom. I haven’t seen one since like that, and even if I never do again, I’ll hold that in my heart always. Because the gift you gave me for almost 30 years of 39 years on this planet may not be one text away anymore and I’ll never see your green “online now” light again on Messenger, but you’re here.
You gave me something from the day that you told me you liked my Derek Jeter keychain in April 1998 that no one else ever did and no one else ever will. The only thing that I’m pissed about is having to live a lifetime without you here… but I’ll carry you in my heart with me forever, peepeye. For now and for ever, sissy.
