Obituary of James F. Kemmis

James F. Kemmis, 83, of North Fort Myers, FL, died Saturday July 9, 2022 at home after battling cancer.

Born on June 9, 1939 in Rosiere, NY, he was the son of Arthur and Lois Kemmis of Cape Vincent, NY.  He leaves behind his wife, Rosemary Ross Kemmis of 59 years; son, Brian and his wife, Trudi Kemmis in Fort Myers, FL.  As well as brother, Paul and his wife, Joan Kimmis and brother, Joseph and his wife, Annette Kemmis.

He is survived by a granddaughter Julie Zielinski and her husband John; two great grandchildren, Emma and Johnny; as well as daughter-in-law Kristianne Kemmis and grandson Cyle Kemmis and a host of other relatives and friends.  Jim was predeceased by his son Marc Kemmis.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy for four years, graduated with a BA from Marist College and was a computer programmer at IBM for 30 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman, cyclist (having participated in several cycling marathons), motorcyclist, hunting, kayaking, canoeing and bowling.  He also volunteered in Boy Scouts as an assistant leader, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.

Family and friends may gather from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29 at St. John the Evangelist, 35 Willow Street in Beacon. Inurnment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9 in Fishkill.
