William Turso

Obituary of William J. Turso

William J. Turso (Bill), age 93, a 65 year resident of New City, NY and formerly of  Jersey City, NJ, peacefully passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in  Poughkeepsie, NY after a brief illness.

Bill served proudly in the U.S. Army and Army  Reserve from 1951-1956, during the Korean War. He was stationed all over Europe, driving trucks for most of his service. He told many stories of his experiences and travel overseas. After his time in service, Bill worked for Miller Dairies in West Nyack, NY as a plant supervisor and Dellwood Dairy in Yonkers, NY.

Having grown up the youngest of eight children during the Great Depression, Bill placed a great emphasis on the strength of family. This also taught him the importance of hard work and gratitude for what one has, even when it might not seem like much. Bill could always save a buck and never left a plate of food with even a single crumb left behind. And throughout his life, whatever he had was shared with those he loved. From the grocery store bags packed with his home grown vegetables to the antipasto he made sure to get for every gathering, Bill made sure to always provide and give to his family and friends. This included the hydrangeas and peonies he would bring from his home to the doctor’s office. Though never asking much from others, Bill was always there to lend a hand to others. He was a humble, quiet and sweet man who could take the largest joys in the simplest of pleasures

Bill wed Bernadine (Freer) in Congers, NY in 1956 and they enjoyed over 57 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernadine (2014), his mother  Mary Turso (Nicodemo), and his brothers Joseph, Peter, Charles, Michael,  Giacomo (Jack) Turso, and his sisters Anne Ferrante and Marie Miller. He was the  youngest sibling and eldest survivor. He is also predeceased by his loyal  companion Shadow.

Bill is survived by his daughter Patricia Sears (Brian) of Wappingers Falls, NY  and his sons, Richard (Karen) of Stony Point, NY, Donald of Pomona, NY, and  William Jr. (Reign) of Tennessee. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Jaclyn (Jason) Zaleski , Brian Sears Jr., Kyle Sears, Kaitlyn Turso, and Julia Marray. He  was especially happy to be a Great-Grandpa to Amelia Sears. Grandpa cherished  the time he had with them and had a special bond with all of them. Bill is also  survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, cousins, and  dear friends. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him, and will remain  forever in our hearts.
