Obituary of Leonard F. Giaccone

Leonard Francis Giaccone, 89 of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed on Monday, June 28th, at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital.

 

Len was born in 1932 in Poughkeepsie, NY the son of Antonino Giaccone and Maria Costanzi. He grew up in Poughkeepsie and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands at Shemya Air Force Base, during the Korean War.  After his time in the Air Force he attended the University of Miami where he met his soon to be wife, Nancy.  After they married they eventually returned to Poughkeepsie, where he lived for the rest of his life.  He worked for IBM for 25 years eventually becoming a Senior Software Engineer. While at IBM he was granted several patents on novel computing techniques. After 25 years at IBM, he retired and started working as a computer consultant doing work for the FAA, Ryder Truck Rental and several Wall Street firms.

 

He graduated with a BS in Cognitive Science from Vassar College, in 1988. He attended Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls. He was a smart, charming man, with a quick wit, always captivated the attention of those around him.

 

While in Poughkeepsie he was a member of the County Players. He participated in 9 different productions, he played the King in "The King and I" and Henry II, King of England in "The Lion in Winter". He also directed two plays, “Sorry Wrong Number" and "The Crucible". The theater was his passion.

 

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy; his three children Anthony Giaccone and his wife Luz of Hopwell Junction, Grace Lyon and her husband Bruce of Danbury Ct, and Jason Giaccone and his wife Ann of Philadelphia PA; and his beloved grandchildren Alexander, Victoria, Thomas and Emmanuell.

 

Family will receive their friends on Friday July 2, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Straub Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
