Obituary of Doris R. Olson

Doris R. Olson, a resident of Salt Point, entered into rest Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 95.

Daughter of the late Leon and Bessie Mowris Ryan, she was born March 18, 1925 in Poughkeepsie. She enjoyed a typical rural life growing up on a farm in the 1930’s. She was a 1944 graduate of Millbrook High School and a 1946 graduate of Krissler Business Institute. She married Melius Olson, Jr. on June 29, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1987.

Doris was a member of Valley Community Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed cooking and baking and her legendary Christmas cookie trays are still talked about. She also crocheted and won ribbons at the Dutchess County Fair.

Survivors include her daughters, Lee Childs of Marlboro and Audrey Mina and her husband, Carlos of Salt Point; her nine grandchildren, Jeanette, John, Peter, Erik, Brenda, Richard, Caitlyn, Michael, and Mikayla; as well as ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sons, David Olson, Mark Olson, and Melius Olson, III.

On Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. a graveside service will be held at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Her grandson, Erik Olson will be performing the service. Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Valley Community Church, Salt Point Turnpike in Clinton Corners. Rev. Mike Ginese will be officiating.
