Obituary of Ernest R. Gelormino

Ernest R. "Ernie" Gelormino of Wappingers Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the young age of 97. He was born on November 7, 1917 to Alphonso and Filomena (Silano) Gelormino in Tuckahoe, New York. He was raised in Tuckahoe and attended school there until moving to Rhinebeck, to live with family after the death of his mother. He continued his education in Rhinebeck and enjoyed helping his family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty (Dederer) Gelormino of Wappingers Falls, daughter Sandra (Gelormino) Weishaupt of Wappingers Falls, son Richard Gelormino and his wife Katie of Murrieta, California, grandson Brian Weishaupt and his wife Lori of Poughkeepsie, granddaughter Kristen Gilberti and her husband Philip & great grandson Gionni Nicholas of Poughkeepsie, and many nieces and nephews. He is the last of 9 children, predeceased by his brothers Louis, Michael, John, Alphonse & Anthony Gelormino, and sisters Rose Cobuzzi, Carmella DeMeo, & Mary Varricchio. Ernie worked at Western Printing and at Sedgewick's Machine Shop until moving to Connecticut. On May 17, 1947, he married Betty in East Hartford, Connecticut. In 1950, he moved to Wappingers Falls to work for I.B.M., where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls since 1952, where he made many friends and volunteered many hours. Ernie enjoyed playing golf, watching Yankees baseball and visiting with friends and neighbors. He loved his family very much and always had time to listen, talk, laugh and tell jokes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather (Pop Pop), uncle and friend. He especially loved his great grandson, Gionni, who he called "John John" or "John Boy", often engrossed in laughing and giving each other "high 5's". He has touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 6 to 8pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Celebration of Life/Service will be held on Saturday August 15, 2015 at 10am at Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. Burial will follow directly after the service at Wappingers Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are invited back to a reception at Zion Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall.
