Obituary of Federico J. Astudillo
Federico J. Astudillo of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Friday, December 21, 2018 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, after a long illness. He was 79.
Son of the late Francisco and Fanni Silva Astudillo, he was born on August 17, 1939 in Ecuador. He married the love of his life, Luisa Defilippi on August 19, 1963 in New York City. Mrs. Astudillo survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Mr. Astudillo obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cooper Union. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a computer programmer for IBM for 25 years, retiring from their East Fishkill location. While there, he was a member and president of the IBM Chorus. He was also a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. Federico was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, where he volunteered as a lector and taught CCD classes. He also volunteered with several organizations in his spare time.
Federico enjoyed playing chess, loved classical music and was an avid reader. He thoroughly relished in teaching his children and grandchildren. He loved to indulge everyone he knew with his sense of humor. He was truly a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
In addition to his wife, Luisa, survivors include his children, F. David Astudillo of Grove City, PA, Ruth M. Williamson and her husband, Bruce of Seattle, WA, and Judy Sears and her husband, Ronald of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Patti Vasconcellos of Queens; and his beloved grandchildren, Ashley Griffiths and her husband, Evan, Jarrett Sears, Maranda Sears, Aidan Sears and Max Williamson.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Carlos Abadie and Juan Astudillo.
The family would like to thank the staff in the Ulster Unit at Wingate in Beacon who cared for Federico for the past 16 years of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Amici’s Restaurant, 35 Main Street in Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Federico’s name to the National Stroke Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
