Filomena Buono

Obituary of Filomena Buono

Filomena "Fanny" A. Buono, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Friday, July 10, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 88 years old. Daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rose Rodia, she was born July 25, 1926 in Manhattan. Fanny worked for many years as a secretary at Monroe College in the Bronx. On January 14, 1951 she married Frank Buono. Mr. Buono survives at home. Fanny was an extraordinary woman. Ever the optimist, she felt that the plate of food and life should always be full. Her happiness was to give; it was never about her. If you were happy, she was thrilled. It was the little things in life that brought her happiness, like her trips to Monticello Casino, going out to lunch with her family and playing bingo with her friends. Fanny made friends wherever she went. Her infectious personality, beautiful spirit and all around gracious nature attracted everyone. Fanny had fans. Her saying was "this too shall pass" and while now things are hard, she would want us to be happy just as she always was. In addition to her husband, Fanny is survived by her sons, Joseph Buono and his wife, Eileen and their children, Joseph, Esq. and Jessica and John Buono and his wife, Mary and their children, Dominic, Anthony and Anna; her nephews, Peter and his wife, Rita and her great-nephew, Peter, Vincent and Lee Cerchiara; her nieces, Lorraine Cerchiara and Diane Caporale and her husband, Dennis; her great-nieces, Erica and her husband, Ernie; her great-nephew, Matthew Caporale her great-great nieces, Victoria and Valerie; her cousins, Nilda, Anthony, Deanna and Gloria and their families; and many more loving cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Fanny was predeceased by her sisters, Argentina "Argie" Ragaglia and her husband, Mike and Concetta "Tina" Cerchiara and her husband, Frank; her niece, Marion Ragaglia. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
