Obituary of Gayle E. Thew
Gayle E. Thew, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 77.
Daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Davidson Hammond, she was born July 27, 1941 in Beacon. She married Donald C. “Mike” Thew, Jr. on April 28, 1962 at Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Thew preceded her in death on June 12, 2002.
Gayle was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Chelsea. She enjoyed time spent at Mike Artega’s swimming and taking exercise classes. She was an avid gardener and was known for her seamstress skills. Recently she had joined a bowling league and absolutely loved it. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a loving wife and mother and a devoted grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Bain and her husband, James of New Milford, Connecticut, Robin Thew of Millbrook, and Jennifer Gallery and her husband, John of Salt Point; her sister, Betty Scagnelli and her husband, Carlo; her brother, William Hammond; her grandchildren, Jimmy Bain, Taylor Stivali, Catherine Gallery and Samuel Gallery; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 22 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Liberty Street in Chelsea. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9 in Fishkill.
