Obituary of Sabina Ruh

Sabina Ruh, 87, of Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at home. She was born in Tettenhausen, Germany on November 13, 1926, the daughter of Joseph Huber and Anna Klinger. On February 26, 1961, in St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, she married Frank J. Ruh. Frank predeceased her on December 8, 1991. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls and a daily communicant at Mount Alvernia. She enjoyed volunteering at the Mount Alvernia Retreat Center for many years and made many friends there. Sabina grew up in rural Bavaria where she was instilled with an unwavering Catholic faith and an amazing capacity for work. She took pride in knowing that a job well done is its own reward. She was a woman of many talents. An accomplished cook and baker, her annual Christmas cookies will be missed. An expert seamstress, her masterpiece was creating Christina's wedding gown. Sabina had a great love of the outdoors and her home. She loved working in and enjoying her gardens and was happiest at home. She loved her grandchildren, Joseph & Katie, very much and was very proud of them. Sabina is survived by her daughter, Christina A. Ungar and her son-in-law Michael of Wappingers Falls, her siblings Joseph Huber and wife Maral, Maral Seibold and husband Karl-Heinz, Irmgard Joas, Ludwig Brandmayer, sister-in law Lori Huber, brother-in-law Hans Ruh and wife Hildegard, all residing in Germany, grandchildren Joseph and Katherine Ungar of Wappingers Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews both in this country and in Germany. She was predeceased by her sister Gretl Huber and her brothers Otto and Alois Huber. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 20 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, P.O.
