Obituary of Charles W. Wood

Charles W. "Chuck" Wood, a resident of Highland, entered into rest Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home. He was 68. Son of the late Raymond and Willie Mae Davis Wood, he was born December 15, 1945 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He married the former Mary Witek on July 8, 1967 in Greenwich, Connecticut. Mrs. Wood survives in Wappingers Falls. Chuck graduated in June of 1967 from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Mathematics. He went on to graduate from Syracuse University with a MS in Computer Science. He later completed and received a certificate from Marist as a Financial Planner. After forty-one years of service, Chuck retired from IBM on March 31, 2008 where he held multiple management and technical positions. He did multiple volunteer services most recently providing volunteer tax assistance thru the IRS and AARP. Chuck was a lifelong Yankees fan as well as an avid golfer and bowler. His second home in Scottsdale, Arizona was the height of his pleasure. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephanie McConologue and her husband, Kevin of Wappingers Falls and Jon Wood and his wife, Christina of Poughkeepsie; his brothers, Kenneth Wood and his wife, Toni, and Donald Wood; his sister, Susan Ward; his grandchildren, Jacqueline and Hannah McConologue and Alexander and Sarah Wood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A service will be held at 8:30 p.m. during the visitation. Memorial donations may be made in Chuck's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
