Obituary of Alexander Summers

Alexander W. Summers, a resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away on January 20, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie surrounded by his loving family. He was 77. Born on October 7, 1936 in the Bronx, Al was the son of the late Alexander and Eleanor Rotanz Summers. Al proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. In 1962 in Maryland, Al married the love of his life, the former Rosemary Higgins. Mrs. Summers survives at home. Al worked as a printer and eventually ran his own business, Sunset Graphics. Al was always actively involved in serving his community and church. He served as Vice President and President of St. Mary's PTA in the Bronx, President of the Bronx Republican Club 86th Assembly District, served on the Bronx community School Board District 11 and was a life member and Captain of Sloper-Willen Ambulance Service. Al was a very active member and deacon of the New Hackensack Reformed Church. As a former Marine, Al's passion was planning the Annual Veterans Day Dinner at the church. Al was also an avid hunter and a life member of the National Rifle Association. In addition to his wife, Al is survived by his children, Alexander Summers, Jr. and his wife, Mary Weir, Debra Colaninni and her husband, Peter, Theresa McKenna and her husband, Christopher, Rick Summers and his wife, Sue and Michael Lomuscio and his wife, Kathy; his grandchildren, Justine, Vincent, Cody, Ryan and Steven; his great granddaughter, Kiara; his sister, Jean Alteri; one niece and one nephew. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 Route 376, Wappingers Falls, NY. A funeral service will be held at the church at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Al's name to the Deacon's Fund of New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 Route 376, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590.
