I am sadden to hear of Mr. McGoverns passing....My condolences to the entire family....I first met him when I was very young. He was a summer lifeguard at IBM...I jumped off the diving board and felt this hook around my stomach.He pulled me up and out thinking I was too young to be in the "big" pool. He made me swim the width and that convinced him it was OK...He later was my gym teacher at James Evans school. I remember he would do magic tricks for us. Then he was my 5th grade teacher...my favorite of all time. Later on I even babysat for his daughters. I treasure my memories of a wonderful man I was blessed to know. My prayers are with all of you.

I opened my high school yearbook, and there was Coach McGovern sitting with his varsity boys soccer team. He had a long and commendable career at Wappingers Central. As a principal, he was clearly a leader, the dean of all elementary school principals. Among many, I warmly remember Barney McGovern. Condolences to his family for their loss. Ann Marie Mullen

Dear Family Members,
Sorry to learn of Barnie's passing. He was my principal at Gayhead Elementary where I taught 4th grade in the 70's. He was always understanding and supportive especially concerning the experimental Resident Outdoor Education Program. He will be missed but forever in my memories.

I (Joy) have such fond childhood memories of growing up with Christine and her dad (Mr. McGovern). I spoke to my own father today (Toot) and he shared his memories of being coached by Coach McGovern in his athletic days. From the Dolfinger family to your family you are in our prayers.

Mr. McGovern was the principal at Gayhead School for many years....he was a kind man and especially kind to my family...I remember faculty meetings when my 5 year old daughter Merlyn would accompany me and Mr. McGovern would say "The meeting can begin now, Merlyn is present".
