Obituary of James H. Munoz
James H. Munoz of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Sunday, October 13, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 90.
Son of the late Frank and Evelyn Collins Munoz, he was born on April 4, 1923 in Brooklyn. On June 9, 1946 he married his sweetheart, Pearl Cooper. Together they raised their two children in Brooklyn, until 1990 when they moved to Wappingers Falls. Mr. Munoz spent his final few years residing at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
After high school, Jim served his country in the United States Navy, Seabee Construction Battalion, during World War II. After he was honorably discharged, he spent the majority of his career with Arthur Tickle Engineering Company in Brooklyn. He started as a machinist working his way up to general manager, where he remained until the company closed. He finished his career as sales manager for Roll Grinding Company in Connecticut, until his retirement in 1987.
While in Brooklyn, Jim was a member of St. Jacobi Lutheran Church and their various organizations. Upon moving to Wappingers Falls, he joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie.
In addition to his loving wife, Pearl, Jim is survived by his son, Steve Munoz and his wife, Irene; his daughter, Janis Zagami and her husband, Joe; grandchildren, Gary and his wife, Donna, Roger, Julie and her husband, Jim, and Jennifer and her husband, Jamie; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Derek.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd. in Poughkeepsie. Interment with military honors will take place following services at 1:30 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale.
