Obituary of Michael Nestor

Michael Nestor, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of Peekskill and Ossining, entered into rest Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was 86. The oldest of eighteen, he was the son of the late John and Mary Nestor, he was born July 3, 1927 in Gortnamearacaun, County Clare, Ireland. After coming to the United States, he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. On June 5, 1954, he married the love of his life, the former Margaret Ryan at St. Augustine's Church in Ossining. Mrs. Nestor survives at home. Prior to his retirement, he sold insurance with John Hancock Insurance Company. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Mike was an avid reader and could easily discuss politics. In his younger years, he was a volunteer fireman and was very interested in flying. In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, he is survived by his children, Garry Nestor of Cleveland, Georgia and Linda Bianco of Wallingford, Connecticut; his grandchildren, Brianna Nestor, Tristen Bianco and Torey Bianco; his brothers, Chris Nestor of Kinvara, County Galway, Ireland and Brendan Nestor of Peekskill; his sisters Anne McInerney of Norwood, New Jersey, Maura Cyr of Peekskill and Eileen Scanlon of Wallingford, Connecticut; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joe, Martin, Thomas, Sean, Kevin, Patrick, Niall, Oliver, and Gerard and his sisters, Nora Chillemi, and Philamena Nestor and Olive Nestor. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 16 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Hawkes Avenue, Ossining.
