Obituary of Thomas J. Lofaso

Thomas J. Lofaso, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 86. Son of the late Frank and Fanny Lofaso, he was born in New York City. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. Thomas married his beloved wife, Anna, on February 24, 1952 in New York City. Mrs. Lofaso survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Prior to his retirement, Thomas worked as Corrections Officer at Rikers Island, retiring as a captain from Bellevue Hospital. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill. He enjoyed stamp collecting, camping and gardening. He was the family photographer and also an avid reader. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen Fico and her husband, Ronald of Fishkill, Anita Rose and her husband, William of Fishkill, Janet Glover and her husband, Richard of Palm Coast, Florida, and Thomas F. Lofaso and his wife, JoAnn of Lake Carmel; his brother, Francis Lofaso of Allentown, New Jersey; his sister, Mary Pipia of Springfield Gardens; his six grandchildren, Eugene Lofaso, Jennifer Connolly, Kristina Fico, Richie Glover, Erin Rose and Thomas Lofaso, Jr.; his three great-grandchildren, Riley, Jonas and Tegan; as well as several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 31 at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Jackson Street, Fishkill. Entombment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
