Obituary of Rose Marie Murtha

Rose Marie Murtha, a resident of Highland and formerly of Marlboro and Yonkers, entered into rest Sunday, July 21, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was 92. Daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Zito Polani, she was born January 2, 1921 in New York City. She married John Patrick Murtha on June 8, 1957 at St. Phlip Neri Church in the Bronx. Mr. Murtha preceded her in death on January 27, 1987. Prior to her retirement in 1975, she had worked as a seamstress for Iris Lingerie in New York City for thirty years. Rose Marie was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Florence Murtha; her close friend, Marjorie Wrage and her husband, Robert and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, John Polani in 1985 and her cousin, Ann Cuccia. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
