Obituary of Mark E. Olson

Mark E. Olson, a resident of Hyde Park, entered into rest on Monday, July 1, 2013 at his home. He was 58. Son of Doris Ryan Olson of Salt Point and the late Melius Olson, Jr., he was born on February 6, 1955 in Poughkeepsie. Mark worked as head custodian for the Wappingers Central School District before his retirement in 2008. He was an excellent cook and loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid Yankees fan. In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his wife, Kimberley Olson of Poughkeepsie; his children, Caitlyn Anne and Michael Ryan; his brother, Melius Olson III of Newburgh; his sisters, Lee Childs and her husband, Mike of Marlborough and Audrey Mina and her husband, Carlos of Salt Point; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mark was predeceased by his brother, David A. Olson. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls. Memorial donations in memory of Mark may be made to either the ALS Association, 42 Broadway, Suite 1724, New York, New York 10004 or to the Valley Community Church of the Nazarene, 2260 Salt Point Turnpike, Clinton Corners, New York 12514.
