Obituary of Archibald J. Edgar

Archibald J. Edgar, a resident of New Hamburg, died at his home on Friday, April 24, 2015. He was 87. He had lived previously in Rhinebeck, New York, San Diego, California, Albany, Indiana and Negaunee, Michigan. Son of the late Warren C. and Hazel Myers Edgar, he was born March 1, 1928 in New Hamburg. He attended Wappingers Central School. Archie proudly served his country in the United States Marines. While in the Corps, he received numerous awards and commendations including the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharp Shooter Award. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent on September 19, 1952. Prior to his retirement, Archie worked as an X-Ray Service Technician. Survivors include his sons, Lee Edgar of Blouard, California and Tim Edgar of Sanesa, California; his daughters, Ann Mentink of Negaunee, Michigan and Lynn Dillaha of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Robert, Jason, Andrew and Erica; and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including, Craig Edgar and his wife, Linda of New Hamburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Leora M. Edgar; his daughter, Rahe Edgar; his brothers, Craig H. Edgar and W. Lawson Edgar; and his sister, Janet Budd. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A service of remembrance will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the family plot at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
