Obituary of W. Judson Mackey

W. Judson "Jud" Mackey, Sr., a resident of Fishkill, entered into rest Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home. He was 95. Son of the late Charles H. and Katherine R. Estabrook Mackey, he was born November 29, 1917 in Poughkeepsie. After the death of his mother at a young age, he was raised by his step-mother, the late Helen Gahran Mackey. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. Jud married the former, Eleanor Dorsey on January 19, 1941 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. She preceded him in death on February 13, 1993. He retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1975 after thirty-three years of service. Jud was the Treasurer of The Park Condominium Association until recently. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fishkill. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Poughkeepsie and was a former member of Hughsonville Fire Department. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his great zest for life. Most important to him was his family and friends. Survivors include his sons, W. Judson Mackey, Jr. and his wife, Donna Marie of Hopewell Junction and Keith F. Mackey of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Erin Lynn Mackey Silva, Sean Judson Mackey and Collin Mackey; his five great-grandchildren, Megan, Makayla, Kayden, Lyla and Sadie. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Harold Mackey as well as his second wife, Jessie Chase Boyle Mackey. Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 8 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill. Entombment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
