Obituary of Muriel E. Palmer

Muriel E. Palmer, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest Friday, March 1, 2013 at Wingate at Ulster in Highland. She was 80. Daughter of the late Menno and Minnie Mae Rogers Eden, she was born November 3, 1932 in Newburgh. Prior to her retirement in 2008, Muriel worked as a receptionist at Hudson House in Newburgh. She enjoyed cooking, reading, playing cards as well as spending time with friends and family. A caring person by nature, she was a devout Catholic often volunteering her time at Our Lady of Comfort. She was a beloved mother to Marlene Varady-Wohlberg and her husband, Richard of Eugene, Oregon, Wendy Areno and her husband, Thomas of Poughkeepsie, Louis Varady and his wife, Cynthia of Holliston, Massachusetts, Steven Palmer and his wife, Angelina of Thousand Palms, California, William Palmer and his fiancee, Asjana of Eugene, Oregon and Christopher Palmer and his wife, Amanda of Decatur, Georgia. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Eden of Ocala, Florida; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Eden. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Muriel's name to Mid Hudson Animal Aid, 54 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
