Talitha Hughes

Obituary of Talitha J. Hughes

Talitha J. "Till" Hughes, a five year resident of The Fountains at Millbrook where she moved to be closer to family and a former fifty plus year resident of Waynesboro, Virginia, entered into rest Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at her home at The Fountains. She was 102. Daughter of the late Robert and Blodwyn Thomas Jones, she was born October 31, 1911 in West Pawlet, Vermont. Prior to moving to The Fountains, she was a longtime member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro. Till enjoyed many of life's pleasures including bingo, banana splits, chocolate shakes, knitting, shopping with friends, the occasional trip to Las Vegas and her daily glass of wine. After her husband, Charles Hughes' retirement, she enjoyed spending winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida especially treasuring time with her niece, Shirley Stanton and her husband Dick. Aunt Till, as she was known to her numerous nieces and nephews, celebrated her 100th birthday with crab legs and a freak October snowstorm at The Fountains. This momentous occasion is certainly a memory that will be passed through the generations. She is survived by her cousin, Roberta Moore of Salem, New York as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of seventy-two years, Charles Hughes; her son Richard W. "Dick" Hughes; her sisters, Jane Waite and Annie Jones; and her brother, Bob Jones. Interment will be in the spring in the family plot at Mountainview Cemetery, West Pawlet, Vermont. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
