Obituary of Robert L. Sheridan

Robert L. Sheridan, Jr. a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Friday, January 25, 2013 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 69. Son of the late Robert L. and Helen Brenish Sheridan, Sr., he was born November 11, 1943 in Staten Island. A graduate of Gorton High School in Yonkers, Bob went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, the former Susan Porach on November 16, 1980. Mrs. Sheridan survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Bob, considered by some a work-aholic, started his career with the United States Post Office in Yonkers. He went on to work as a Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic for Con Edison for thirty years. In his retirement, he worked for Stewart Airport in Newburgh cleaning the runway in the winter months. Most recently, Bob worked for the Town of Wappinger as the Supervisor of the Recreation Department. Always keeping himself busy, Bob enjoyed auto racing in his younger years and was a member of the Laker's Club in Yonkers. Bob enjoyed auto mechanics and could fix just about anything. His pride and joy was his Harley Davidson. Bob was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Wappingers Falls. Most importantly Bob was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by his children, August Rossy and his wife, Ana of Bedford Hills; his daughter, Desiree Ferrara and her husband, John of Beacon; his grandchildren, Aurora, Arielle, Olivia, Joshua, Nadia and Tatiana; his great-granddaughter, Sophia; his sister, Nan Massabni; his brother, Richard Sheridan; his sister-in-law, Estelle Noble; his brother-in-law, Francis S. Porach, Jr. and his wife, Patricia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
