Margaret Goldsmith

Obituary of Margaret F. Goldsmith

Margaret F. Goldsmith, loving mother, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Margaret was born in Camden County, Missouri, daughter of Clifford R and Pauline Davis Scrivner. She was born at home in April, after her father forded spring swollen streams on horseback to summon the doctor. Margaret attended the Montreal Elementary School, a one room schoolhouse for grades K-8. During this time, the family moved to Valley Center, Kansas where she later graduated from Valley Center High School. On September 11, 1965, she married the love of her life, Charles C Goldsmith. In late 1968, the family moved to Poughkeepsie NY, where she took a position as Manager of Rivercrest Apartments. In 1989, she retired from work and enrolled at Dutchess Community College, graduating with an Associate Degree. Margaret was devoted to her family, and loved to reminisce about family events. She had an amazingly vivid memory, and would recall stories from when her sons and grandchildren were young; funny and heart warming stories. Mom loved reading, music, dancing, and could be the life of a party. She especially loved Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and Ray Charles. Margaret is survived by her beloved husband Charles C. Goldsmith, at home, and three sons: Joe D. Goldsmith and wife Perry, of Poughkeepsie, NY, Jim D. Goldsmith of Longmont, Colorado, and Jon D. Goldsmith and wife Lori, of Tampa, Florida. Margaret has two grandchildren, whom she loves very much, Alison E. Goldsmith of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Sean C. Goldsmith of Scarsdale, NY. Margaret was the second of six children. She is survived by her brother Raymond Scrivner and wife Erma, of Plano, Texas, sister Lois Hinds of Valley Center, Kansas, sister Karen Retter and husband Ken, of Lawrence, Ks. Margaret was predeceased by her brother Bobbie Dean Scrivner of Montreal, Missouri, and sister Joyce Leonard and husband Marvin, of Wichita, Kansas. Family will receive friends on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, January 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
