Obituary of John T. Weigandt
John T. Weigandt, a resident of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 72.
Son of the late Joseph and Betty Gunther Weigandt, he was born October 1, 1939 in the Bronx. He was raised by the late George and Betty Bessler in Germantown. John was a graduate of Germantown High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
John married the former Virginia "Ginny" Campbell on February 4, 1967 in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Weigandt preceded him in death on April 9, 2000. They lived and raised their family in Richmond Hill, Queens for over twenty years.
Prior to his retirement, John owned and operated I.I. Investigations, Inc. He was active in Kiwanis International where he was a past Lieutenant Governor; the Knights of Columbus in Queens, as well as the Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in local politics. After moving with the family to Wappingers Falls, he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wappingers Falls where he was a member of the Men's Club and the Wappingers Falls Business and Professional Association. John was very social and enjoyed attending musicals and traveling to historical destinations and also Atlantic City. Most importantly, John was devoted to his family and will be truly missed.
John is survived by his daughters, MaryJane Wohl and her husband, David of Torrance, California and Karen A. Weigandt of Wappingers Falls; his sisters, Margie Reu, Frances Marcuse and Barbara Greenwald-Davis; his beloved grandchildren, Julie Gold and Jonathan and Benjamin Wohl and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Thelma Campbell.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday May 23, 2012 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls.
