Obituary of John P. McGarrigle

John P. McGarrigle of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Thursday, March 22, 2012 at home. He was 72. Son of the late Patrick and Margaret Loftus McGarrigle, he was born on April 30, 1939 in the Bronx. He married Carol Ann Pitruzzello in September of 1967 in the Bronx. John was a graduate of St. Ann's Academy and Fordham University, receiving a Bachelor of Liberal Arts. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Independence until he was honorably discharged in April of 1965. John eventually worked for and retired from Jefferson Smurfit Corp. and Arnoff Moving Co. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a docent for Montgomery Place in Annandale-on-Hudson. John was also a member of the Kevin Barry Irish Club and a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his son, John P. McGarrigle, Jr. and his wife, Tara; daughter, Jennifer Mack; adored grandchildren, Alex and Siena McGarrigle; sister, Margaret McGirr and family; brother-in-law, John O'Connor and family; and many cousins here in the States and in Ireland. He was predeceased by his sister, Cecelia O'Connor. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 26 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, with military honors. Memorial donations may be made in John's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
