Obituary of Francis J. Versace

Francis J. Versace, a lifelong resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 77. Son of the late Francesco Vincenzo and Matilda Pulichene Versace, he was born February 19, 1935 in Stoneco, New York. Frank was a graduate of the Wappingers Central Schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married the former Janet VanWagner on April 5, 1958 in St. Luke's Church in Beacon. Mrs. Versace survives at home. Frank retired as a Foreman with New York Trap Rock. He was a parishioner of Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls where he was a former vestryman and tended the grounds for many years. Frank was active in community politics and was a former Town of Wappinger Councilman and Supervisor, serving the Town of Wappinger for nine years. He was a member of the Elks. He was also involved with coaching Little League, CYO Basketball and JV Basketball at Roy C. Ketcham High School. He was proud of his children and nothing brought him more joy than to see his grandchildren growing up. In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-three years, he is survived by his three children, Lynea St. Pier and her husband, Dean of Wappingers Falls, Peter Versace and his wife, Sandee of Parkland, Florida and Cathy Wilson and her husband, Rob of Wappingers Falls; and his grandchildren, Alec St. Pier, Natalia Versace, Julian Versace and DJ Neise. He was predeceased by his brothers, John and Joseph and sister, Catherine. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at Zion Episcopal Church, Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls. Inurnment in the Zion Church Columbarium will be at the convenience of the family.
