Obituary of Gladys Moreno Torres

On a snowy Wednesday morning, a beautiful angel was taken from us. Gladys Moreno was born November 28, 1925 in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico to the late Julio and Maria Nieves Moreno. She married Inulio Torres on October 19, 1952 in the Bronx. Mr. Torres survives at home in Beacon. Described as a strong woman who lived for her family and loved to laugh, she thought she would not live long enough to see her daughters become women but in fact lived to see her six grandchildren become adults and the birth of her great-granddaughter. Laughing, joking, strong willed and giving advice until the end, her love for the family is just one of the things to remember her by. She enjoyed telling stories of her life in Puerto Rico and when she and her sister came to New York. The cherished memories of her will never fade as her spirit lives on in all who knew and loved her. A loving wife, beautiful mother and doting grandmother, she will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband of fifty-nine years, she is survived by her daughters, Nereida Diaz and her husband, Richard of Wappingers Falls and Naida Amatulli and her husband, Angelo of Carmel; her sister, Nesty Quinones of Sacramento, California; her brother, Alberto Moreno of San Juan, Puerto Rico; her grandchildren, Jessica Diaz, Richard Diaz, Jr., Christopher Diaz, Verrinia Amatulli, Michelle Martine and Anthony Amatulli and her great-granddaughter, Aliyah Diaz. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Friday, March 2 at St. John the Evangelist, Willow Street, Beacon. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
