Obituary of Mary F. Kelly
Mary F. Kelly, of Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Born in Long Island City, Queens, New York on February 15, 1918, she was the eleventh child of Vinzenio and Angelina DiMarcantonio. After graduating high school, she was employed as a seamstress at an elite dress shop in New York City.
On November 3, 1951, she married Eugene F. Kelly of Wappingers Falls. After he served twenty-one years in the US Air Force, they settled in Wappingers Falls. Mr. Kelly preceded her in death on March 13, 1984.
Mary enjoyed life and had a ready smile. She loved her family and friends – human and four-footed. She enjoyed dancing, especially in the kitchen with her grandchildren, and also enjoyed bingo and the occasional lottery scratch ticket. She looked forward to her visits and her friends at the Wappingers Falls Seniors Group as long as her health permitted.
Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses, Irene and Leonard Sherman, Cheryl and James Gunn, Jeanne and James Ferranto and Eugene and Carol Lee Kelly; her eight grandchildren, David, Kevin, Kelly, and Angela Gunn, Dawn Bennett and her husband, Adam, Eugene, Josh and Hannah Kelly; and her five great-grandchildren, Micala and Caitlin Reid, Elijah, Aaron, and Levi Bennett. In addition, for the last eight years Mary's family extended to the Elant Nursing Care team, who nicknamed her "Teenie Weenie" as they opened their hearts to her with patience, kindness and humor.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
