Obituary of William T. Farrell

William T. "Big Guy" Farrell, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 68. Son of the late William J. and Ella O'Shea Farrell, he was born March 21, 1943 in Queens. He married the former Carol R. Cannova on September 5, 1964 at St. Gregory the Great Church in Bellerose, Queens. Mrs. Farrell survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Prior to his retirement in 2001, Bill had worked as a Switching Technician for Verizon for forty years. Bill was very involved in the Town of Wappiner Little League Program for thirty-nine years. He was past president and a former coach. He has been a mentor to countless youths over the years. He was also a member of the CWA and the Hudson Valley Sportmen's Association. Together with his wife, Carol, they had also been volunteers for Bingo at Mt. Alvernia for many years. In addition to his wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by his sons, William P. Farrell and his wife, Jill of San Diego, California and Peter C. Farrell and his wife, Veronica of Wappingers Falls; his sister, Florence Buckley and her husband, Robert of Queens; his brother, Joseph Farrell and his wife, Ute of Windham; his five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristen and David of San Diego and Taylor and James of Wappingers Falls; as well as several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 21 at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Jackson Street, Fishkill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's name may be made to the Town of Wappinger Rec (Challenger Program Field), 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
