Obituary of Jacqueline C. McCarthy

Jacqueline "Kay" McCarthy of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Friday, January 30, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 84. Daughter of the late James and Madeline Brown Roche, she was born on December 10, 1930 in the Bronx. She married Michael T. McCarthy on December 18, 1948 in St. Dennis Church in Yonkers; Mr. McCarthy preceded her in death, passing on December 2, 2010. Kay spent her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and six children. In her spare time, she enjoyed friendship with her "Gables Ladies" playing cards and watching movies. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. Most of all, Kay enjoyed her grandchildren; family was her greatest pleasure. Survivors include her children, Michael T. McCarthy and his wife, Marie of New Port Richey, FL, Eileen C. Wheeler and her husband, Gary of Wappingers Falls, Timothy M. McCarthy of his wife, Maureen of Wappingers Falls, Debra C. Wright and her husband, Keith of Wappingers Falls, and Joseph M. McCarthy of Wappingers Falls; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Michael, Kay was predeceased by her son, Donald M. McCarthy on July 30, 2004. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street in Poughkeepsie. Interment will take place in the spring at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kay's name may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
